According to the National Biotechnology Information Center, the interior of the car is one of the dirtiest places on Earth, even dirtier than the toilet bowl.

The study measured the contamination of the car's interior components through the average bacterial count per square centimeter, or colony forming unit (CFU). The steering wheel is found to have 629 CFU. By contrast, an average mobile phone screen is at 100 CFU, while public elevator buttons are at 313 CFU. Public toilet? 172 CFU.

What's even worrying is the two most common bacteria found in cars. According to the study, Staphylococcus bacteria, the cause of many diseases such as food poisoning, skin infections and MRSA, are among the two.
Another is Propionibacterium that can cause inflammation and infection. These are just the two most common types of bacteria - there are about 700 different bacterial strains living in a typical car.
