Hi bác, trươc 2002 318i sử dụng động cơ M43 máy 1.8-1.9L. Từ 2002 cải tiến thành N42 sẽ có dung tích 2.0L như xe bácHai ký tự tiếp theo: 18, 20, 35, 28, 40 ...: chỉ dung tích máy 1.8L, 2.0L, 3.5L...
E thấy chổ này ko đúng lắm vì xe em 318i mà dung tích máy là 2.0 mờ bác:3dmong:

Cũng tương tự như Model/Series code và Chassic code, BMW sử dụng dãy các ký tự và các con số, chẳng hạn như M50B25TU, N52B30O1, B38B15O1, S42B20, P50B32... để phân biệt các thế hệ kèm đặc tính của động cơ.
Trong đó:
- Chữ cái đầu tiên M, N, S, P thể hiện thế hệ động cơ (M: được thiết kế (xin đừng nhầm với sản xuất) trước 2001, N: sau 2001, S: cho dòng M-series, P: cho dòng racing)
- Chữ số thứ hai: liên quan đến số lượng và bố trí xy lanh, k hoàn toàn là số lượng xy lanh (3- 3 xy lanh thẳng hàng, 4- 4 xy lanh thẳng hàng, 5- 6 xy lanh thẳng hàng, 6 - V8, 7 - V12, 8 - V10)
- Chữ số thứ ba: thể hiện sự thay đổi/cải tiến của động cơ tại thời điểm sản xuất so với thiết kế ban đầu (0: k thay đổi, 1-9: có thay đổi).
- Chữ cái thứ tư: thể hiện loại nhiên liệu động cơ sử dụng (B-xăng, D-dầu, E-điện, G-gas, H-hyrogen, M-metanol, X- kết hợp điện và dầu, Y- kết hợp điện và xăng)
- Chữ số thứ 6 và 7: thể hiện dung tích (25 = 2.5L, 30 = 3.0L...)
Ở động cơ thế hệ M:
- Hai chữ cái cuối cùng: TU - cải tiến đáng kể so với thiết kế gốc
Ở động cơ thế hệ N:
- Số cuối cùng: 0 - k cải tiến, 1-9: có cải tiến.
